Answers:
1. WHAT DOES THE LineGrabber™ DO?The LineGrabber™ provides full line seizure without any complex wiring to the network interface jack (NO RJ31X TO INSTALL). The LineGrabber™ works with any single-line, analog phone (plain old telephone systems - POTS), and prevents jamming of the alarm signal by other phone devices connected to the same line, such as phone ringing, conversation in progress, or handset left off-hook in the high and dry mode (no dial tone). It also saves time and money in not having to buy wiring permits to install phone line seizure, and can be installed in a few minutes by non-technical personnel.
2. HOW MANY LineGrabbers™ ARE NEEDED PER HOUSEHOLD?Any alarm control can plug or wire-in directly into any wall jack WITHOUT a LineGrabber™. All other devices (telephones, fax, computer modems etc.) must have LineGrabbers™ installed.
3. HOW CAN I PREVENT MY CUSTOMER FROM CHANGING THE MODULAR WIRING TO THE LineGrabber™?
Cutting the release clip handle will minimize customer tampering with the modular wiring. With the release clip cut, removing the plug now requires a tool. Or replace all the existing phone jacks with the LG-2WP wall jack for permanent installation. (the control panel connects to the rear of the LG-2WP jack).
4. WILL THE LineGrabber™ WORK WITH ROTARY-PULSE AND TONE-DIALING PHONES?Yes.
5. IS THE LineGrabber™ COMPATIBLE WITH CALLER ID, MESSAGE WAITING, and DSL?Yes.
6. HOW FAST CAN YOU RECOVER THE LINE AFTER THE ALARM COMMUNICATOR GETS THE ACKNOWLEDGMENT (aka KISS-OFF) SIGNAL FROM THE MONITORING OFFICE?The instant the auto dialer hangs-up.
7. WILL ALARM SIGNALING BE DELAYED IN ANY WAY WHEN USING THE LineGrabber™?No.
8. HOW DO I CONNECT A LineGrabber™ TO A WALL PHONE?The LineGrabber™ Model LG-2MSJ can be connected to a wall phone with the use of the LG-WPA wall phone adapter. It just snaps in between the phone and existing wall jack. Another option is to replace the wall phone jack with the LG-2WP Wall-Phone Jack with a LineGrabber™ built-in. This option requires wiring in to the LG-2WP terminals.
9. WILL THE LineGrabber™ WORK WITH MULTI-LINE PHONES?The LineGrabber™ is designed to work with a single, loop-start analog line. If you can access the alarm line with jack adapters you can install a LineGrabber™ on that line.
10. WILL THE LineGrabber™ WORK WITH A MISS-WIRED WALL JACK?(RING AND TIP REVERSED).Yes. The LineGrabber™ is designed to compensate for reversed wired jacks. If your phone does not work after installation, reverse the LineGrabber™ LG-2MSJ WALL and PHONE RJ-11 plugs.
11. CAN THE LineGrabber™ BE USED ON PARTY- LINE OR PAY-PHONES?No. The law does not permit this type of use.
12. THE LineGrabber™ SYSTEM SEEMS EXPENSIVE. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?The LineGrabber™ is not a 100% replacement for the RJ-31X jack. Hardware cost is higher then an RJ-31X installation, but when you consider the labor and electrical permit costs, the LineGrabber™ may be a lot less expensive. Also with the time saved on typical installations, a dealer may be able to install more systems with the same crew. It is designed for apartments, small homes, stores, and time-consuming installations. Using the LineGrabber™ is faster than the complex wiring necessary for installing an RJ-31X jack. The benefits are realized in the time saved with each installation. With the LineGrabber™, apartments and temporary rental alarm and medical alert systems are now an added revenue option.
13. IS THE LineGrabber™ TRANSIENT PROTECTED?Yes. Sidactor devices and 1KV components act as surge and transient suppression.
14. WHAT CERTIFICATIONS DOES the LineGrabber™ LG-2 HAVE?FCC certification to CFR47 PART 68 and UL listing is for the following categories:
Household fire warning system units, UL 985
Household burglar-alarm system units, UL 1023
Home Health Care Signaling Equipment, UL 1637
15. DOES LineGrabber™ NEED A POWER SUPPLY?No. The LineGrabber™ is powered directly through the phone line.
16. CAN THE LineGrabber™ BE USED IN SYSTEMS WITH AN RJ-31X JACK INSTALLED FOR LINE SEIZURE?Yes. This would be a non-alarm use of the LineGrabber™ The phone device without a LineGrabber™ will lock-out all other devices with a LineGrabber™, but the alarm control seizes the line as usual.
17. CAN A LineGrabber™ BE USED WITH VOICE DIALERS AND OTHER AUTO-DIALERS?Yes.
18. IS LineGrabber™ FAIL SAFE?Yes. Component failures most likely will prevent normal phone operation but will allow full line seizure by the alarm control communicator.
19. WILL A LineGrabber™ ALLOW AN ALARM SYSTEM TO SEIZE AND RETRIEVE DIAL-TONE FROM A PHONE IN USE OR HANDSET LEFT OFF-HOOK?Yes.
20. CAN I INSTALL MORE THAN ONE PHONE DEVICE TO A SINGLE LineGrabber™?Yes, with the LGA-2L adapter installed in the phone receptacle of the LG-2 LineGrabber™.
21. IF THE LineGrabber™ IS WIRED TO WORK ON L1, HOW DO I USE L2 OF A TWO LINE JACK?Simple use the LGS-LI/L2 adapter. It converts a two line jack to two single line jacks. Now the LineGrabber™ can be used on L1 or L2.
Line Grabber, Line seizure
